Nektas is probably my favorite draken, and he makes an brief appearance in The War of Two Queens, but you'll mostly learn about him in A Shadow in the Ember. I am still excited for the next book in the series because of this ending. I am incredibly eager to see what will happen next in regards to Millicent. I still question where his loyalty lies. But in the meantime, this book was a really good read, and I highly recommend.

In The War of Two Queens, you'll frequently see the names Malik and Malec. "Lasagna vs Lasania". So much happened that I feared Poppy would lose who she was and all that she stood for. Poppy passes out and is woken by Casteel, who is so happy to see that she's okay. The dual points of view were not my favorite thing. Which again felt like a cheap move to me. It turns out that Isbeth is not the Ascended–she is a demis–not quite a god but not quite a human. There are twists and turns, and a lot of surprises along the way, and I was completely hooked, madly flipping through 600+ pages and unable to stop thinking about the story, even when I reluctantly had to put it down. The War of Lost Hearts, Book 1. More terrifying than that is the beast's master, a wild man who insists Joselyn is his bride by right, and plans to seal his claim in blood.
But Isbeth's minions capturing Poppy and crew before they even get halfway to the city? With defeat imminent, he defies orders and wields the Crown of Stones, an ancient relic of untold power. Like when she mentioned anyone outside of the main characters I have no idea who they are, what they look like or what kind of character they are, and then you're expected to feel something about said characters when sometimes happens to them. Strong character development?
11-07-22. another excellent book. The biggest shock, however, is when they go to the temple to find the children that were taken mere weeks before, only to find that they are no longer alive–their bones part of a big well of bones, hidden deep within the temple. Until then, those two have always been separate, so it is to be seen what will happen with one Primal of Life and Death. Callum is referred to as "the golden boy" I think because of his hair. The same goes for Vonetta and Delano and so many others that I've really enjoyed seeing. These things start killing anything and everyone around them, no matter how much Poppy tries to save everyone she loves–she sees Hisa go down, and other individuals go down in the fight. I can't wait for the next one! Chosen before birth to uphold the desperate deal her ancestor struck to save his people, Sera must leave behind her life and offer herself to the Primal of Death as his Consort. I'll keep ACOTAR but will never read another book by this author.
So, if you don't want to read spoilers about this book, stop reading here. Entertaining enough. She is published with Tor, HarperCollins Avon and William Morrow, Entangled Teen and Brazen, Disney/Hyperion and Harlequin Teen. Kieran quickly slaps the lid shut and Poppy rages. He was looking for something. There was nothing about the scene that felt gratuitous to me, or a way to appease fans over what was right for Casteel and Poppy's story. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods.
You hate her, but at the same time she's not wholly bad. Overall I just wish she'd take her time and get an editor instead of churning them out so fast. As always, Armentrout balances of all the intensity with lots of funny moments. But the way that Isbeth went about waking him really surprised me. He's the leader of the Argonauts, an elite group of guardians that defends the immortal realm from threats of the Underworld. With each book, I fall deeper and deeper in love with Casteel and Poppy. I am completely hooked on this series. Oh, how I love to hate mommy dearest. When we last left off, in The Crown of Gilded Bones, Cas is now a prisoner, being tortured by the evil Blood Queen, and her handmaidens and a powerful Revenant. My emotions are all over the place in the best possible way and all I can think of is what an incredible ride this story has just taken me on. Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. We get answers, surprises, and hints of things to come. The first is going to be spoiler-free, and the last half of the review will be very spoilery.
