The layouts are different than any books to date. I like the idea that older kids can have younger friends and vice versa. I would argue that 6- and 7-year-olds will get into the spirit of Gollie's personality and will learn some cool new words while they're at it. While reading this, I made a list of things I love about this book: * I love BOTH Bink and Gollie. In the second tale Gollie is determined to scale the heights of the Andes Mountains in her living room but finds it difficult to do so when Bink keeps knocking on her front door. "After the Newbery committee called me, I spent the whole day walking into walls, " she says.

Several of my most trusty kid-lit sources were likening it to the very best early-reader pals ––Frog & Toad, George & Martha, and Elephant & Piggie–– and it's co-authored by Kate DiCamillo, so it was bound to be good. Now, about these girls. Very cute books, a hybrid between easy reader, chapter book, and graphic novel. Maybe it would do the same for you and your kids. Ditto pages 13, 14, 24, 57, and 69. Bink & Gollie Series (graphic novel format). ATOS Reading Level: 2. Text is quite minimal, but the vocabulary is harder than most easy readers; they are commonly shelved in the juvenile fiction section of the library. They're sweet and silly, and wholly original.
Reading Intervention. Clear a whole shelf off in your room and display your copies of this book proudly. She loved the starkness of everything but one little thing that is central to that story.
