My 60th race and this was a great half marathon course - good crowd support, excellent mix of neighborhoods, right portion of hills. Participants need to clearly label their bags with their bib numbers. Look for volunteers pointing to the 2nd floor elevators. 275 miles (one quarter of the race). The actual entry itself was easy. Though it is busier, summer offers the ideal conditions for snorkeling at Sharks Cove and all of the north shore and west side of the island. This is a great dive for all levels of experience. What We Saw While Snorkeling Sharks Cove. Once you are in the water, swim around and explore the area. It's worth mentioning that just south of Shark's Cove is a tide pool area that we snorkeled in as well. The east side is shallower with many tide pools, and the west side is the deeper section and better for snorkeling.

If you prefer to do a hike in the area, I recommend the Ehukai Pillbox Trail or a visit to the nearby Waimea Falls. Shade can be tough to find in this area. If you drop into the hole you can swim through a short cavern straight out into the reef and walls. Goood dive to 40 feet, good vis to 150 ft. Best dive yet I've had. I would do this site in a heart beat. Marine life that can be spotted in this location includes Uhu, Ape, Roy Sea Bass, Flounders, Blue Strip Snappers, Toau, Turtles, Octopus, Squid, Aholehole, and others. For a Canadian cold water diver this site was absolutely stunning. A great dive for any skill level. Not too many cars get broken in there due to the amount of beach traffic.
Shark's Cove (Pupukea) is heavily used for training purposes. Taking public transportation is also possible and you can get a day pass to take the Bus to visit the North Shore and other attractions in the area. To reach Hwy 83 on the east side heading north, you need to get on Hwy H-1 westbound then take one of the highways that crosses the Ko'olau Mountains, Hwy 61 (Pali Hwy), Hwy 63 (Likelike Hwy), or Hwy H-3.
