It is a passage, Exodus 18, that really comes as something of the climax of this first part to the book of Exodus. It's going to be for the nations; in you shall all the families of the earth be blessed. There is much learning and growing ahead, and I want to help you to stay focused on the main thing, which is Christ. Eventually, this became my mission statement for my speaking, writing, and blogging ministry: To know Jesus more and make Him known. What is the sun around which the planet of your life orbits? Then, in chapters 12-13 you have the sacrament of deliverance, with the Passover, as the Passover becomes the event through which the children of Israel are delivered, and this becomes a memorial for them, something that they are to remember year after year after year with the institution of the Passover meal. The problems with this view are that it doesn't seem to fit the context quite as well as the other view and the uncertainty doesn't fit with Paul's certainty about the future resurrection. In Colossians 3:5, just after explaining how we have died and been raised up with Christ (3:1-4), he exhorts us to "put to death" the members of our bodies with regard to various sins (also Rom. Only God can give us a receptive attitude to His truth. Knowing Him involves body, soul, and spirit; lock, stock, and barrel.
