This newly-established Illinois chapter of the National High School Musical Theater Awards will serve as an annual national celebration of outstanding achievement in musical theater performance by high school students. What are The Thespys? Numerous students from across the state auditioned for "Shrek the Musical, " and 125 were selected for the final production company from 60 high schools. There will be a callback (by invitation only) on Saturday, June 18th at Downers Grove South High School at 9 am. The Tinley Park High School Drama Club will perform Alice in Wonderland at the 47th annual festival in January. Following an exhaustive selection process, a number of productions are chosen to perform for attendees. Bremen High School, in Midlothian, opened its doors to students in September of 1953. Since then, District 228 opened three additional schools. Prepare ahead of time with your teacher/vocal coach. Other criteria deal with the Festival's program, such as securing a well-rounded representation of musicals and straight plays, full-lengths and showcases, and new and old scripts. Ever since my first time attending Festival as a student way back before most of you were born, I have wanted to be a part of this legacy…and here we are. The three-day Festival takes place every year in early January, and switches locations between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois State University.
